Ficlets

I AM AN AUTHOR

Jeanara’s heart beat fast as she continued to read about the brave, creative, intelligent race that died out years ago.
At the very bottom, a suggested thesis statement was put: “Fiction means lies. Authors, then, were famous for good lying, and this is why they died out.”
Obediently, Jeanara typed: “Authors are all liars, and it is a blessing to the human race they died out.” She emailed it to her English teacher, dormcomplexbenglish2 then opened another email window.
Once upon a time, a girl had a loving family in a kingdom. But then her mother died. The girl was very sad. The father was too, but then he remarried. His new wife hated the girl, and so did her daughters. Her father died shortly after, and the mother made the girl do all the cooking and cleaning…
Jeanara finished her story, then emailed it to herself. The Monitors rarely ever checked emails-there was just too much of it.
Before she clicked ‘Send,’ however, she slowly typed at the bottom:
“I AM AN AUTHOR . THEY ARE NOT EXTINCT .”
