As much as I’ll miss the familiar names they so often use, we’re at the point where their elemental natures come to the fore – no, they’re not gods, but they’re something dark and powerful, perhaps given personae by the Powers That Be to rein them in. So why shouldn’t their shapes (and names) slip accordingly?
Aw, crude, Howie… Did I contradict something from previous installments? I re-read everything and thought I did okay, but I might have missed something. Sorry if that’s the case.
And yes, Alec is kinda the Eddie Haskel at this point. I mean, what would you do?
What? Did I somehow mess something up? You missed nothing, it’s a five-star story, and everything is copasetic, I thought. Did I_ miss something? And sorry if something in my note was amiss. When I wrote “shapes and names slip” I did not mean in the ficlet chain – I meant _in the reality of the story, which is shifting. “Big D.” is slipping into Death and Death and whatever else you might call him/it. If that’s the source of any confusion, I’m doubly apologetic.
Sorry that all the formatting in the above note got screwed up. Wish this site just supported HTML and was done with it. Bottom line: excellent story, Nick, and I hope my follow-ups did it justice.
