Significance Defined

A hard day was coming to an end, and this brief rest was well deserved. Sitting on a driftwood plank, perched among the rocky tidal pools, with his back to the surf. Facing the mountain that anchored the center of the island. It was amazing to watch how quickly the shadows grew as the sun dropped directly behind the jagged peak.

He suddenly felt like The Little Prince. Very small – spinning through space on a little sphere. Watching the sun set left him with a very real sense of motion. With that came vertigo. It wasn’t unpleasant. It was invigorating and grounding. Nature had a way of deflating an ego that today’s successes had inflated just a little bit too much.

There was a lot of work to be done tomorrow. He walked up the beach to curl up and try to sleep in his little shelter while the universe spun on indifferently around him.
