It's Time

Luckily, he was there when I arrived for the party. He watched me thread through the crowd of people as I attempted to cross the room to meet him, flashing his killer smile between sips of chardonnay.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” he said when I approached. “I’ve been thinking about this moment all day.”

“Then you know what I’m about to say. We can’t wait any longer.”

“You’re right. It’s time.”

Had it really been this easy? Had he really just agreed? I touched him to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. To feel that he really was flesh and blood and standing before me. I realized that this was, indeed, all real. And the doting expression on his face told me that he was in this. This was going to happen. Now.

As he pulled me into his embrace, I realized what a big commitment he had just made. After all this time.

“Come on,” he said, “We should go get our coats. There’s no reason to wait. Let’s go get ourselves a future.”
