The Last Christmas

“Still listening to that tune?”
“Umm. Ya.”
“Never gets old, hmm?”
“Mmmhm.”
I remember my first Christmas here. It was wonderful, snow and everything, but I had no family to spend it with. No friends either. It was just me, with the other kids in the orphanage and the people who took care of us.
Now, I have a family. Everything is pretty great, but I still miss everything else that I left in Russia. Which is pretty much nothing. The only thing I left there was hope. I had no hope when I came here. I wish I still had hope.
The only friend I have is a boy named Joseph. He’s like a brother to me, which is just what I need.
My new mom is nice, I guess. My new father is nice, too. My new real brother ingores me. He rather have me not be here at all. But I don’t let that stop me.
Today, I’m spending my time with Joseph, the only person who still cares about me. He’s the only person who listens. He’s the only one who notices me. He means the world to me. And he is why I’m still alive.
