Blood diamonds (cont.,cont.)

The blood diamond war began in March, 1991 when R.U.F militia attacked Kono, the diamond mining capitol of the diamond mining capitol of Africa, Sierra Leone. It has continued until today. One of the main problems of the blood diamond ‘war’ is the R.U.F militia. They have mutilated some twenty thousand people by cutting off arms legs, lips and ears with machetes and axes and have killed fifty to seventy-five thousand. Their goal is to terrorize the area population and gain control of diamond fields. International Diamond industry is funding R.U.F and the wars by buying one hundred twenty-five million dollars worth of diamonds annually. But the worst part of the blood diamond war is the children soldiers. Children are taken from their homes, separated from their parents and forced to kill. Their innocence is stripped away and their childhood stolen. R.U.F commanders cut the children’s arms and pack it with cocaine and marijuana and then hand them guns and command them to shoot.
