Courage

On the night of November 6, I got up the courage to ask you to dance. Even though my heart was racing, I knew that this was my chance to make an impression.

God, you looked so handsome that day. Your tux fit a little too well, and your blue tie accented your eyes.

Your eyes. They met mine at one point earlier today. In math class, they met mine as the teacher said, “Now partner up!”

And we worked together on the math problems, and that’s when I knew that I had to ask you to dance at tonights dance.

I walked half-way across the room when another girl came up to you with two cups on punch. My heart stopped beating, my palms, stopped sweating, and my feet stopped moving.

I collapsed in the middle of floor.

But you came up to me, you asked me if I was okay. My heart raced. And instead of just saying, “I’m fine” I said, “Would you like to dance?”

And you picked me up of the dance floor and held me in your arms and said, “I’ve been waiting a long time for those words.” I finally had courage.
