A Glass Half Empty

Something appeared strange. Maybe it was the out-of-state plates or just a gut feeling. Whatever it was, it made her uneasy. She pulled into the motel parking lot to check it out.

The Ford Explorer had been abandoned for some time. She knew this upon inspection: dust on the windshield and car hood, notes on the windshield wiper from the motel telling the owner to “move your car or it will be towed”, and the license plate with an expired sticker on it. She decided to call it in, to see if the SUV was stolen.

It was. The SUV had been reported stolen six months ago. With a wrecker on the way, she decided to take another look, perhaps a peak inside. The tinted windows made it almost impossible to see anything, but she tried anyway. Cupping her hands to look through the back window she could see nothing.

She then tried the right rear window. Something in the dark. She could just make out the outline of what appeared to be a human torso. Quickly, without hesitation, she broke the glass.
