The Black Iris (part 3)

As James continued along the stream, a large flowerbed of Iris’s caught his eye. He’d seen Iris cluster’s growing from streambeds before, but never so many in one place. The flowerbed led him to the doorway of the old mansion, where he slowly creaked open the door and entered.

James had always been a quiet individual, but nothing frightened him. He believed this was because he himself was somewhat frightening, with his pale skin and his penchant for wearing dark colors.

The house was large and dimly lit. If it weren’t for the holes in the roof and the full moon shining brightly overhead, he wouldn’t have been able to see a thing. James looked around inquisitively and gradually made his way to the staircase. Clouds of dust shot out with every step he took as he ascended to the second floor.

At long last he reached the top of the winding stairs. James could hardly believe his eyes, as the second floor was covered entirely in Iris’s. It was breathtaking. And there in the center, grew a single black Iris.
