The Opressor's Chant

“Sing everyone, sing!” our leader bellowed into the vast night. The humming of our chant was growing louder and louder, catching on the night air and playing it like a song. We could feel the spirit in the air. Our nervous, desperate, hopeful voices were strengthening. More people were joining The Cause.

For years we had been rejected, cast aside by the government. Our income has been whiddled down to nothing, and we have suffered. Our kids and our grandkids have suffered as well. And that is the reason we are crying not only to the night air, but to our opressors as well. We are crying for help; crying for change. This is what we have become. This is what we have to stop. So we chant,

“We will live on, we just need help. Help for the future and help for today, so please take our pain and misery away.”
