Broom Pusher

So there he was.

Sitting; propped up by two or three pillows. Bald head gleaming in the harsh flourescent lighting, his family gathered around with tears welling up in thier eyes. Kissing his forehead and impressing upon him thier feelings of undying love. He smiles. Smiling like he doesn’t have a care in the world, smiling like everything is going to be alright.

Smiling; smiling to spit in the face of the cancer that has him in its clutches. Unquestionably this kid is an inspiration. He has hope where there is no hope, he has strength where there is only cancer. Someday, we can only hope there will be more brave souls such as his in this world.

Waiting for his family to call it a night; I entered his room offer my respect.

And I punched that fuckin’ Chemo Kid right in the face.

I gathered up my broom and dust pan and moved on to the maternity ward.
