In A Moment, Eternity (A City of Heroes Story)

Everything slowed to a crawl. He took in the room with incredible clarity.

There was a sharp pain in his shoulder. Possibly dislocated by the sheer force of the throw. Not that it would matter.

He flew past Tabitha. Her head turned, ever so slowly, following his short flight with her ears. She really is beautiful, he thought. Pity she won’t last the night.

As he soared across the room, his body rotated slightly. He saw Tommy, a confused look on his face. He has no idea what’s going on. Probably never will, really.

Robert. Once they were best friends. They’d met in university. Robert had introduced Allen to all three of his ex-wives. Now, Robert was looking at him, but not really seeing. He was focused on maintaining his force field. His eyes were glazed over, sweat pouring down his face. Allen doubted he could last much longer.

He hit the wall head first. The drywall gave way easily, but behind it was concrete.

He had a brief moment to notice the texture. A flash of white hot pain. Then nothing.
