Ficlets

Much better than a pillow.

I quivered on the couch, trying to tell myself it was just a movie. I clenched a fist and looked away, and saw that Max, Sally’s older brother was standing there and had just shifted his eyes from me to the screen.
Almost instantly I was calm. I patted he cushion next to me. “Wanna watch? I’m terribly scared by myself.”
“Where’s Sally?” he asked.
“Showering.” I smiled, he wanted to and he knew it.
Slowy, with tattered jeans and a worn black shirt that covered his wrists, he came and sat next to me. It wasn’t close enough.
I watched the movie for awhile – tension was building – and then I let out a little scream and plunged my face behind a smelly pillow. I heard him chuckle and slide over a couple cushions.
“Are you really that scared?” he asked, and I peeked out behind my pillow.
“Kinda.. yes,” I said, straightening up and tryed to not look timid.
He held out his hand and slid even closer. I reached out and gingerly took it while curling up against him, thinking Sally, stay in the shower forever.
