A Small Visit

Dante was about halfway home when he heard the jarring honk of a car horn.
Eve? He thought as he pulled over.
Eve jumped out of the car and buried her face in his shoulder a she burst into tears.
She told him everything she said to her mother, and some things about her family that she had already told him about but he didn’t really mind.
They sat down in the grass and talked it all over. Eve was leaning against Dante’s now soaked shoulder.
“So, you ready to go home?” Dante asked gently.
“No.” Eve said. “Not for awhile.”
“Let’s go to my place.” Dante suggested.
In the nape of his neck, he felt Eve nod. So they drove to Dante’s house. Most of it was spent sitting on his back porch while Dante whispered comforting words into Eve’s ear.
But, unfortunately, Eve had to eventually leave.
“I think I’ll stay at a friend’s place.” She said.
Dante silently nodded as she walked off the porch and into her car.
