I'm All Out of Love [Retro Music Challenge]

John held his head in his hands, propped up on the bar. The ring, still in its box, sat in front of him.

The bartender ambled over, wiping out a mug. “So, when you gonna ask her?”

“Already tried to,” muttered John. “And the response I got was ‘go your own way.’”

“Ouch, buddy,” said the bartender. “I’ll save a prayer for you tonight. So what did you say back to her?”

“Nothing,” said John. “I ran. I ran so far away.”

The bartender was bemused. “Straight up? Just ran out the door, huh? It takes two to make a good relationship, so I guess you did the right thing.”

John picked up his beer. “At least I still have my pride. In the name of love -” he raised his glass and finished the remainder in one long gulp.

The bartender smiled. “Good for you. Keep on loving – you never know what’s in the air tonight. Might be the girl of your dreams is here now.”

With that, John perked up. “You may be right,” he said, putting the ring and its box into his pocket. “Or you may be crazy.”
