The Plan

“Okay, so, I think we have a project, then.”

Oh? Do tell. Hey, curiosity got me through the headaches. Maybe, just maybe, it would help her through this funk she suddenly found herself in.

“Well, the way I see it, it’s bad enough that I have to go around talking (out loud, I might add) to a woman who exists only in my head.”

Okay, fair enough. Trepidation? Maybe. Given what I was about to propose, she had a right to be cautious.

“And I can’t exactly spend the rest of my life calling you ‘Hey, you’. So, I’m going to help.”

Oh, this should be good. Sarcasm. Last refuge of the frightened. I think she knew what I was about to say, and she didn’t like it.

“I’m going to go out of town for a few days. I have a cabin up by the lake. Belonged to my folks. I haven’t been there in… Well, a long time.”

Sounds lovely. And that helps us… How?

“Simple. I’m going to crawl inside my head, and you and I are going to open up every single box until we find your name. And maybe we’ll open some of mine, too.”
