The Savior Cometh (CLFM 12)

I have no idea how we ended up here.

All we’d done is walk out of the back door, was narrowly missed by an artillery shell, and boom. Everything was black.

We could be dead, of course, but something told me Les wouldn’t let anything that simple happen.

“Bright kid,” Les mumbled.

“And you’re not evil,” I said aloud, ignoring the screams and moans around me. “Everything we’ve done has helped someone, saved a life, united love-”

“Ssshhh.” Les beat me over the head. “Not so loud. If they hear we’re doomed.”

“Who?”

Them!”

I didn’t get to ask any more interesting questions as the kid, who’d somehow been silent and good all this time, decided to switch on an electric lantern she was carrying.

It quickly revealed a landscape of murdered human bodies and slick tentacled beasts that fed off them.

“Murderers!”

Dropping the kitten, the kid fell to a crouch and fired huge balls of flame from her cannon. Incinerating the monsters.

I very quietly slipped into a nearby telephone box.
