Macy 70: Destroy

Macon held Macy at arms’ length, smiling hugely. “I knew you’d come to your senses. I told you that you loved me.â€?

But she shook her head and he looked on extremely confused. “I don’t know. I love Derrick.â€?

“And me?â€?

Silence.

The hard and bitter Macon returned. “Just remember what I know.â€? And he strolled out of the room calmly, wiping her lip gloss from his lips.

Macy then finally willed herself to glance at Derrick. Her eyes tried to find his but he turned away. “Derrick?â€? she asked.

No answer.

And she broke down into sobs. She was angry. That was for sure. But only…at herself.

Derrick suddenly spoke quietly. “I don’t know Macy. I don’t know if I can keep doing this.”

“What is this?” she sniffed.

“You. I just don’t know.”

“Derrick, what? I’m sorry. Okay? I’m so sorry. Is that what you don’t know?”

“No. That’s not it.”

“Then what?” His slow answers were tearing her apart, piece by piece. But not as horrid as herself destroying them both and everything else around.
