Before Sleep

James walks inside his apartment. He locks the door to his balcony. He has since said goodnight to Alexandra, and thanked her for the visit. He takes his final sips of Cognac before he makes his way to sleep. Before he reaches his bedroom, he opens his laptop, then he pulls up his email. He received nothing good. From there, he starts to write an email to Theresa. He struggles with this task, deleting each attempt. Anything longer than a paragraph made him feel uneasy. He finally left it at a request for her to call him. He sent the email and left the room.

He walked into his bedroom and crawled into bed. He clicked off the light and sunk under the covers. Before long he was warm and sound asleep.
He moved very little as he entered the several REM cycles. Each one created its own series of vivid and emotionally taxing dreams.

He was now experiencing his most revisited dream, the one where he is flying. In this dream he can feel the clouds against his back. He does not look down. Too scary.
