Odd Thomas was a man who did a great deal of things for a great deal of money. He was an adventurer, a fighter, a politician, a miracle worker, an actor, a magician, a purveyor of fine goods and services, but above all those things he was first and foremost a man who did dangerous things for money.

During the course of his career he had jumped off the edge of the Grand Canyon, he had scaled the Niagara Falls, tamed lions, fallen off buildings, fist fought a shark, devoured 9 scorpions and 3 tarantulas, ran against the bulls in Spain, tight rope walked a volcano and a plethora of other things that should have caused him to stop living. The most recent such thing was flying a plane into a cliff face.

Odd Thomas really didn’t mind doing these dangerous stunts, as long as he had a good audience and the money flowed in. People payed well to see the amazing things he did. Although he sometimes wondered if people would still pay if they knew he was not only immortal, but also one of the last Avatars of luck.
