Cupcakes

She leaned against the counter, waiting for someone to come in. It was one of those little bakeries. You know, with the best homemade cakes and cupcakes you’ve ever had.

But she was too hot to really care about that now. She fanned herself with a magazine and glanced at the clock, waiting for it to be lunch.

But then the little girl came in. She looked so determined, in her yellow dress and pink sandals. She was dragging her little brother in behind her. He had his fingers in his mouth, and looked surpreemly uninterested. Their mom ran in behind them.

The girl’s eyes lit up when she saw the cupcakes in the display case, and she ran up to the glass, pointing at the one she wanted.

“Mommy!! Can I have this one?” She pointed at the cupcakes, her tiny finger against the glass.

The boy had just noticed the cupcakes apparently. His eyes got real big. Instead of pointing, he just hugged the glass, looking at his mom expectantly.

The mom shook her head, smiled, and pulled out her wallet.
