the silence
as i ran down the familiar streets all i could think of was that damn silence every where, nothing made a noise
well, i suppose its better than screams, at least there were no more screams
oh yes, i remember that day, running through the streets of my home town, dressed in my army BDUs, id never thought id ever have to run down my old driveway wearing my combat boots, its a humbling experience
i ran and ran that day, too many mouths, too many targets, everywhere, and me with only my sniper rifle
i saw friends, people i grew up with eaten before my eyes, by other friends
my house was empty, i dont know where my family is, to this day i still hope
but they werent the ones on my mind
i ran to the school, passing cars on the street with bodies in them, bodies that were still moving, trying to bite
i finally reached the school, hoping beyond hope that the one i told to meet me there was ok
i open the door, rifle at my shoulder, nerves tensed and see two hazel eyes staring back down the barrel
