“This is alright,” I said, looking over at Nick. He has started a fire and the tree was glowing.
“Yeah, I guess,” he said. He sat down and put his arm around me. “Can I ask you a question?”
“Shoot,” I said.
“Are you having the perfect Christmas?” I was waiting for that question to pop up. Thoughts were scattered around in my mind. This wasn’t really the best Christmas, but, I was with my family and my best friends. Who would want more that that?
“Jess?” he asked.
“Well, this Christmas isn’t turning out to be exactly what I thought, but I’m with my family, friends, and you. So, who could want more than that?” He smiled.
“Yeah, exactly.” I starred over at the the fire.
“Can I ask you another question?” asked Nick. I nodded.
“Have you opened the locket?” I thought for a minute.
“Actually, no.”
“Open it,”. Nick undid the chain and he dropped the necklace in my palm. I snapped open the heart shaped locket and there was a picture of Nick and I.
“Life is short, but love goes on forever,” he said.
