The Lake

Suddenly, an old man with a long beard came out of nowhere. “Get off my land! Get off my land right now!â€? He walked with a limp over to the edge closest to us and glared. “Did y’all hear what I just said?â€?

Trey started toward the edge and I followed close behind him with fear. “Sorry…â€? he began but then the old man gasped.

“You! You! Its you, come here boy.â€? The man reached out for Trey and he swam close, wincing. “I know you, boy.â€?

“No. I promise you don’t.â€? Trey said. His eyes were pleading when he gazed back at me. I just looked on confused. Where ever this was going, it was going to be strange.

“Trey? What’s going…â€? but he put up a hand to stop whatever I had to say.

The man continued with a smile now, “Boy, where have you been? It’s been couple years now.â€? Trey finally reached the edge of the water and he got out slowly, dripping everywhere. The man went down and hugged him but Trey didn’t return the embrace. “Well, boy don’t you remember me? Don’t you know who I am?â€?

“Uh yeah, hi … dad.â€?
