Ficlets

Silent (New series!)

Walking through the halls in my hoodie and sweat pants I hear a voice.

“See, that is the girl I was talking about, Grace. She doesn’t talk, she’s mute.”

I roll my eyes and glare at her. Just because I don’t talk doesn’t mean I can’t hear her. Slipping into English class, I sit to the front. I am a smart girl that gets straight As so that the teachers don’t bother me with questions. I have concluded that they mostly ask questions to the people that don’t know the answer. Sure enough though, right off the bat my gay English teacher asks me a question.

“Grace, maybe you can answer, who is the king in the beginning of Hamlet?”

I remain silent. It is a very simple question, Claudius was the king. Here I still am, silent.
