The Unseen Reflection

Melissa jerked backwards, nearly tripping over her high heels.

“What is it?!” she asked, looking around with ‘a deer caught in the headlights’ look.

“For a moment – I saw – I think I saw…” Brad was stuttering, blinking at the mirror for some invisible confirmation.

“I don’t know what came over me. I saw Harper. In the mirror.”

His voice was so quiet that Melissa had to stoop to hear it. “You’re just going through shock. It’s normal. But she won’t haunt your dreams any longer.”

“Melissa, murder isn’t normal,” Brad said, balling his hands into fists. “Why did I let you drag me into this?”

“Listen to me!” Melissa squawked, now afraid that Brad would lose his so called faith in her. “We’ll both be fine. There’s no evidence – there’s nothing to incriminate us.”

Brad was silent.

Harper looked on, stunned that she had actually been noticed. And by him, no less. Now, if she could do this more often – and in front of Melissa…

Well, maybe there were a few perks to being a ghost.
