Your Last First Kiss

I glance shyly up at your perfect face,
and meet your deep blue stare.
Quickly I look away,
a blush coloring my cheeks,
biting my lip to hold back the smile.
We lay together, staring up at the autumn sky,
your fingers intertwined with mine,
your arm around my shoulders.
With my head upon your chest,
I risk another glance;
Those eyes pierce me yet again,
and I wonder what I’ve done to deserve you.
Just inches from your glorious face,
I pause,
heart pounding and mind racing.
Leaning closer,
we take that one last breath,
and I’m aware somewhere that for some reason,
I’m afraid.
I don’t want to miss this,
I just want it to go right.
What if its too fast, too sudden?
It’ll be too late soon:
and when our lips could be no closer,
I looked down.
So close, I know, I could feel the electricity;
I just want it to be perfect,
to come straight out of my dreams.
You never know when it could be your last first kiss.
