Into The Sand

He grabbed her, and they began to sink into the ground. “Guillaume?” Amilie screamed.
“I’ve got you!” He assured her. Finally, they stopped. They couldn’t see anything, but in the distance, a white light came toward them.
“I can’t breathe.” Amilie gasped. The light kept coming closer.
“Who are you?” Guillaume asked the light. It beckoned them forward. He started to follow it, but Amilie stopped him.
“I smell Slythers.”
“Trust me, this isn’t one of them.” Suddenly, They saw Florence and Mathieu around a tree. The tree. “See? We’ve found it!” He ran to join them, and she reluctantly followed. Just as he reached up to take an apple, everything turned gray, as if it were a photograph.
Guillaume spun around, grasping the place where his heart once was. But, Amilie fell first. Despite the pain, he tried to come to her. “Please, Guillaume, it’s useless.” Her eyes closed.
