Ficlets

Merrily We Roll Along

There he was, all alone, forgotten by all who matter. I could have been better! He’d cry. I could have been softer. I could have been.

He sat for years in the dust covered road, with only a passing bug as a companion.

But, today was different. Today, the lightening that lit the purple sky spoke to him. Everyone deserves a miracle. It said. Perhaps, you most of all.

A toymaker was riding his bike, when he saw the rabbit. There, now. You are a fixer-upper, but I’ll try.

Days stretched to weeks, and weeks to months, but finally, he was done. The little rabbit sat on the shelf among the dolls, waiting for someone to love.

Now, reader, you may think that it is a miracle enough that he was even found. His miracle was not yet done.

“Hello.” said the man to a little girl who had just walked in.
“Hello.” She replied. At first the girl only looked at dolls, but then, she saw the rabbit.

His button eyes filled with tears as she said, “I want him.”
