The Chase Begins

By all accounts, Dr. Thomas Davis was a perfect gentleman, polite to a fault. He had a way of smiling that was completely disarming and he used it often when conversations on controversial topics became a little too heated. He was always calm, collected and precise with his words and actions.

Detective Albert Miller had even met him once at a charity ball last year. He had just come in the main entrance immediately behind Dr. Davis when Dr. Fredrick Johnson, who was hosting the ball at his country estate, introduced them. For a brief moment, Miller caught a look from Dr. Davis that unnerved him. He thought he imagined it because Dr. Davis immediately put on his famous smile and was all charm. He couldn’t put his finger on what it was about that look he got, but it registered in his mind that he would be encountering Dr. Davis on less-then-friendly terms in the future.

With today’s discovery, he knew he didn’t imagine it and realized what the look was – recognition of one’s mortal enemy.
