Ficlets

Always

I walked through yet another hall in this dilapidated house, wanting to get out.

I walked by a yet another mirror. Something made me stop and stare into it, just like last time

I saw myself, just me. Exactly as I expected. Suddenly bored, I looked at the ornately craved, wooden frame. I looked at it up and down, form the floor to the ceiling.

I touched the mirror, the surface rippled, just like liquid, just like before. I drew my hand away, some of the silvery and reflective liquid sticking to my hand.

I brushed it off and stared back into the mirror.

There was a fleeting moment that my reflection didn’t seem my own, just like before.

I was motionless, but my reflection winked at me, smiled, and beckoned my with a hand.

I grinned, and walked into the mirror, feeling the freezing liquid form around me perfectly, comfortably.

I breathed it in, seeing myself. As always. Just me.

As always.
