I had a caring father.
I had my Prince Charming.
And I was going to be able to stay with my Prince Charming: conceivably for the rest of the next 5 1/2 years (if my college plans worked out). And maybe, even longer than that? I shook my head, slightly annoyed at myself.

When it was four we headed back for my house so he could pick up his car and go home. On the way, we had quiet conversations that were so easy, so natural to have. It was like he was part of me, that I’d been missing, but now had found.
The street we were walking on was strangely busy today. I glanced up at the puffy clouds, humming to myself.
Suddenly I heard Drew screaming.
Screeching Tires.
Pain.
Darkness.
