Hugh paused as he walked down the narrow path, his mind on other things. He had no idea where he was, or where his destination would be. He simply walked on, engulfed in his thoughts, which were mainly of Alexia. He was beginning to regret the decision that he made prior to his leaving, when he told her his plan of doing so.

“This new regime is even worse than the last.â€? He recalled telling her. “Personally, I think you should come with me. We can start new lives together somewhere else. Somewhere better.â€?

She looked up at him, emotionless. She said that she couldn’t come to a decision, and wanted to know if he could delay his plan a few days until she could.

“I’m sorry.â€? He told her. “I know that this is very short notice, but if we do leave it has to-â€? A voice had awoken him.

“A guard.â€? He thought, but the voice belonged to a female. “Alexia!â€?

He ran toward the voice, and she came into view, running just as he was. She fell into his arms, looked up into his eyes, and smiled. “I’ve decided, Hugh.â€?
